Marriage*Joseph married Catherine Penna, daughter of William Penna and Maria Brent Thomas, circa 1873. 
Census 1880*J. was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Beat 1, Port Gibson, Claiborne County, Mississippi. The official date of this census was 1 Jun 1880. Also living in the household were his wife, Catherine Cronin (given age 27), his daughter, Ellen Cronin (given age 5). Joseph and his family lived in Port Gibson, where he followed the trade of blacksmith.5

The official date of this census was 1 Jun 1900. Also living in the household were his wife, recorded as Kate Cronin (given age 47), his sons, recorded as Ernest E. Cronin (given age 19) and William J. Cronin (given age 11), his daughters, recorded as Ethel M. Cronin (given age 17) and Katie L. Cronin (given age 14). Joseph and his family lived in Port Gibson, where he was employed as a blacksmith. Joseph indicated he immigrated in 1871 while Catherine came in 1874. They were married for 27 years and had eight children, five of whom were still living.7
