Mary DeJane Daniel

Mary DeJane (Babione) Daniel, age 90, formerly of Arrow Lane, Tiffin, died at 6:45 pm, Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Elmwood at the Shawhan. She was born May 16, 1917 in Old Fort, Ohio to the late Joseph and Cora Mae (Joseph) Babione. On August 11, 1945 in St. Joseph Church in Fremont, Ohio, she married Dr. Walter A. Daniel and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1997.

Survivors include one son, Allen Joseph Daniel of Celebration, Florida; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth (James) Gordon of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one son-in-law, Anthony Recinella of Steubenville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Gian-Carlo (Sharla) Recinella, Anthony James (Christy) Recinella, Michaela Alexander-Daniel, Whitney Alexander-Daniel, James G. Gordon, Jr., Geoffrey B. Gordon, Kathleen E. Leahy, and Daniel J. Gordon; and three great-grandchildren, C.J. Recinella, Lexi Recinella, and Sophie Recinella.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Jane Recinella, and brother Oscar Babione.

DeJane graduated from Old Fort High School in 1935 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Heidelberg College in 1939. Prior to her marriage, she taught Latin, English, and dramatics at Old Fort High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. DeJane was a co-founder of the Cotillion Club, member of the American Association of University Women, past-president of the St. Francis Home Auxiliary, past-president of the Rosary Altar Society, volunteer for Mercy tele-care, long-time member of Mohawk Golf Club, and was the 2007 recipient of the Mercy Tiffin Health Foundation Founder’s Award.

The Funeral Mass will be 10 am Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Entombment will follow in the St. Joseph Mausoleum.

Family and Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Monday, August 13, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Tiffin Health Foundation, in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
