HURON - Howard L. Leis, of Huron and formerly of Monroeville, died at home Monday.

He was born in Bismark to the late Anthony L. and Mary (Miller) Leis.

He spent his career in retail sales as a watchmaker and founded Leis Jewelry. Eventually, he got into the furniture business and renamed the store Leis Furniture and Jewelry.

He and his wife operated what was to become Howard L. Leis Furniture until their retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Frances R. (Haas) Leis, whom he married Sept. 22, 1936; daughters, Tonya M. Bruce of Huron, Sharon A. Leis-Scagnetti of Marblehead, Susan R. Birri of Fairfield and Diana Leis-Delker of Clifton Park N.Y.; a son, LeRoy L. Leis of Norwalk; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Leis in 1943; sisters, Corrine Phillips, Rosella Adelman, Verena Leis and one in infancy; and brothers, Herbert Leis and Florian Leis.

There was no visitation, and funeral services were held this morning at St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, with the Revs. Ed Littlemann and Donald Shea officiating.

Burial was in Meadow Green Cemetery, Huron.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, or Sorrowful Mother Shrine, Bellevue.

Groff Funeral Home, Sandusky, was in charge of arrangements.
